My Quiet Time in 2010

I’ve prayed and prayed about 2010 and this is where the Lord has led me. This year is going to be “The Jesus Year” for me. I’m focusing on the names and character of Jesus with the goal of falling more in love with Him. My word is “Jesus” and my verse is 2 Peter 3:18, “…but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.” Whenever I begin a new year, there are a number of decisions to be made: What will be my word and verse for the year? What will I use for my Bible reading plan? And what devotional books will I include? What book on prayer will I read? And are there other books and resources I want to include in my quiet time?
This year I’m going to include the Oswald Chambers Daily Devotional Bible. I have the NKJV from many years ago and that’s where I’ve begun. I may switch back and forth between the new ESV one and this one. Not sure because I’ve ordered the ESV one and haven’t actually seen it yet. I really like the organization of the NKJV one because it gives me readings in the OT, NT, Psalms, and Proverbs every day. That’s really my favorite way of reading through the Bible. That way, when I’m in some of the OT books like Leviticus (sorry, that’s not my favorite book of the Bible :):)), then I still have a NT reading and a Psalm reading. For devotional books I’m including My Utmost For His Highest by Oswald Chambers, Daily Light, Of The Imitation Of Christ, and Streams in the Desert. My book on prayer right now is With Christ In The School of Prayer by Andrew Murray (the book that was the catalyst for the Welsh revival). Then, I have a whole stack of books on Jesus that I want to include in my quiet time throughout the year. They include Christ Is All by David Bryant, Abide In Christ by Andrew Murray, Lion and Lamb - The Relentless Tenderness of Jesus by Brennan Manning, Jesus, Man of Joy by Sherwood E. Wirt, The Crises of The Christ by G. Campbell Morgan, The School of Calvary by John Henry Jowett, The Year Of Living Like Jesus by Ed Dobson, and The Name Above Every Name - Papers on the Excellency, Exaltation, and Supremacy of Jesus by Edward Dennett. I may not make it through all these books because I may find myself immersed in one that just so captures my thoughts, heart, and attention. Then I guess it will be the Jesus years, not year. :):)
I’m also working my way through a very cool magazine, Conversations, Volume 7.2 entitled Following the Jesus Way. There are a lot of good articles and I will use it throughout the year as well.
Also, in the class I teach at church, we will be studying through A Woman’s Heart That Dances using both the book and the Study Guide & Journal (I am finishing this up as we speak). In this book we will be looking at what it means to dance with the Lord. So this will be part of my Jesus year also and I am looking forward to it!! There is nothing so exciting as dancing with the Lord. Lead on, Lord, in our dance!! I am following Your lead
I’m excited about my quiet time and already have begun. You can read what I learned this morning about Jesus in the other blog I have here called “The Jesus Year.” God bless everyone in 2010. May we all grow more and more in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!!
Welcome To The Quiet Time Experiment

The Lord put something on my heart for my walk with Him in the new year. I want to put out the question: what difference will daily quiet time with the Lord make in my life for 2010? I’m calling it an experiment because I want to be intentional to keep track of what I do in my quiet time, how I connected with the Lord each day, and what happened as a result. I constantly talk to others about the importance of experiencing God, day by day. And I have my journals to show my walk with the Lord. But I want to be more intentional and accountable this year to take note of the passages of Scripture I live in, the books I meditate on, and the prayers I lay out before the Lord. I’m calling this:
The Quiet Time Experiment
Maybe you will want to do the quiet time experiment in your own life as well. I encourage you to do it and we can connect together about all that the Lord has taught us.
Blessings to you in 2010
