The Comfort Of His Names

peaceWhat a journey we have had into the great and glorious names of God. This week thinking deeply about Yahweh Shalom (He is my peace), Yahweh Sabaoth (He is my deliverer), Yahweh Ro’i (He is my shepherd), and Abba, Father (He is my Father) brought great comfort to my heart. The more I read, the more I sensed a new nearness and love from my Lord. At times in our lives, we can feel as though we are “out in the cold” so to speak, suffering from the weight of a bitter suffering. But drawing near to His names, knowing our Lord as He really is, brings a blessed warmth to our hearts. That is what this week meant to me. As the psalmist has said, “But as for me, the nearness of God is my good; I have made the LORD GOD my refuge, that I may tell of all Your works” (Psalm 73:28). And then, my hearts desire is reflected in Psalm 84:10 “For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand outside I would rather stand at the threshold of the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.”
